"Treble Maker" - high voltage tone enhancer/clean boost

Some people are willing to spend thousands upon thousands of pounds to buy an original Klon "Centaur" only to leave the 'gain' control at zero and use it as a clean boost. The funny thing is that, by doing this, the "magic unicorn unobtainium germanium diodes" aren't even in the signal path! In fact, the whole clipping stage is removed entirely! So, if you're going to use it as a very expensive clean boost, why not build something without the clipping section, and then maybe add some extra tweaks to it? That was the goal of the "Treble Maker".

In essence it's the gain recovery and treble control sections of the Klon as a standard pedal. In reality, it's so much more than that. It starts by increasing the internal voltage; the original Klon runs at 27v internally (+18v/-9v), whereas the "Treble Maker" runs at 35v internally (+/-18v, and yes, I know that that -18 to +18 is 36, but, in the real world, you loose a few volts both ways, so it's closer to 35v when measured) all from a normal 9v centre negative 'Boss style' power supply (i.e the normal power supply you power 99% of your pedals with). This extra headroom not only keeps the "Treble Maker" incredibly clean, it also means you can comfortably use it after all your other pedals without having to worry about the tone becoming too compressed or flat.

The next trick, and what separates the "Treble Maker" from the Klon is how the tone is shaped. The first stage of the "Treble Maker" significantly cuts the treble. The second stage then boosts the treble at a higher frequency. This produces a 'butterfly eq curve' which, in reality, means you can boost the treble aggressively without the sound getting harsh or brittle.

Unlike many traditional treble boosters, which work by cutting nearly all the bass from your tone, producing a perceived lift to the treble frequencies when amplified, the "Treble Maker" DOESN'T cut the bass at all! Its op amp design and active eq means it doesn't have to. It also DOESN'T have to go first in the signal path like the standard Rangemaster style circuit. The "Treble Maker" makes a perfect always-on tone shaper; a wonderful solo boost; a powerful amp boost; if can even cut treble to help spoften up a bright tone without it feeling dull.

Hand built by one-man-and-his-cat in sunny ol' Derby, the "Treble Maker" is housed in a hand painted 1590BS enclosure with top mounted jacks - this is the same small footprint as the EHX Nano range of pedals, but deeper than a EQD/Walrus style enclosure, allowing for plenty of space for pancake jacks.
