We offer a restringing service in-store which includes a general clean, lemon oil and restring (strings not included, they can be purchased in-store or provided with the guitar)

We do not currently offer set-up or repair services in-store. We have a list of local contacts that we would be more than happy to refer you to for these services :)

We do not offer this service for Violins/Violas etc as it's not really our area! If you have any other stringed instruments that require a restring feel free to ask, we're always happy to try and help! :)

Our shop is named after one of our favourite fun facts about Derby...

The Allenton Hippo.

In 1895, workers digging a well discovered the 120,000 year old skeleton of a Hippopotamus - just 2 miles from our shop. It is thought that there was once a land bridge between the United Kingdom and Europe, which allowed animals such as these to venture north of their more usual habitats.

The Allenton Hippo is on display at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, alongside loads of other great artifacts and pieces of local history.

We are situated next to our partner-shop Rattle & Drum Ltd, the Midlands finest Drum & Percussion specialists.

Hippo Guitars is a 10 minute walk from both Derby bus and train station.

Being located in the City Centre has lots of perks, but unforunately means we dont have our own dedicated parking.

There is on-street parking available on Osmaston Rd, just seconds from our door, as well as Bradshaw Way Retail Park which has a large outdoor carpark. Both of these are roughly the same price for the first couple of hours.

All of the stock visible on our website is available to see, try and purchase in-store. There will also occasionally be items that are only available in-store and do not get listed for sale on the website.

Our website is set to only show listings for items that we have in-stock at the time. If you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to message and we can let you know how quick we can source it.

For any brand that we stock, we should be able to order other products than those currently listed at the time of viewing.

If there's a second-hand item you've been searching for with no luck, let us know and we can set about finding it for you!

We keep a close eye on our prices to ensure that we are competitive and our customers are getting a good deal. We will try to price match any UK retailer that has the item in-stock, just ask if you've seen something cheaper elsewhere!

Our pre-owned products are priced to reflect the market at the time of listing. Age, condition, modifications and much more are taken in to account.

All pre-owned guitars on our website are set to click and collect only. We can ship world wide (excluding US), so please get in touch with us via email letting us know your delivery address if you would like us to ship a guitar to you, and we will get back to you with a shipping quote as well as more details about the item as soon as we can.

Pedals, amps & accessories on our website are available for UK delivery, other than those stated as collection only.

We are closed Sunday/Monday and unable to ship orders on Saturdays. Due to this order placed after 3pm on a Friday, will not be despatched until Tuesday.

Next working day shipping is available on most items. Orders for NWD need to be placed before 3pm to be despatched same day.

All of our new equipment comes with manufacturers warranty as default.

Pre-Owned guitars come with a 6 month parts and labour warranty.

Pre-Owned amplifiers and pedals come with a 1 month warranty, to cover any problems you may have to begin with.

All stringed instruments purchased at Hippo Guitars will be restrung at no labour cost for the first 12 months of ownership, providing that strings are purchased in-store at the time of booking in.
