The "Porta IV" - a preamp/colourbox/boost/overdrive/fuzz that recreates the sound and feel of cassette multitracks from the 90s

I've had a soft spot for the old Tascam Portastudio II for a very long time - it was my introduction to multritrack recording as a teenager, and even now I love both its simplicity and its sound.

This isn't just a "copy & paste the schematic and stick it in a guitar pedal", this is a unique analog circuit which recreates the sound and feel of recording to, and then playing back from, cassette. The six controls combine to produce a wide range of wonderful vintage sounds, from transparent and clean, to sagging, stuttering, falling apart fuzz

"Trim" - the preamp gain

"Rec" - the record level to tape (preamp output volume/the fader on the Porta II)

"Play" - playback level/mixer volume

"High" - passive high frequency eq

"Low" - passive low frequency eq

"Age" - the age of the cassette; fully left it's like using a brand new cassette - bright, full, clean - and turning it clockwise introduces phase distortion, random drop outs and sag, much like reusing an old tape, or having rewound and played a tape too many times. It's not traditional "warble" like on 2 inch tape, it's more authentic to how cassettes react

All this is housed in a pedalboard friendly 1590bs with top mounted jacks (same small footprint as the EHX Nano pedals, but a little taller than EQD/Walrus pedals to comfortably fit even pancake jacks) with a true bypass footswitch
