This is a new pedal, built by our incredibly talented local friend - Just Some Audio Effects. Known for hits such as the Hot Toddy, Porta IV and Hippohotamus pedals, JSA creates insanely good effects at very realistic prices, with an unparalleled attention to detail! We're proud to be offering some of his creations in-store & online.Â
Here's what JSA has to say about the Just Some Fuzz Pedal -
"Just Some Fuzz" (small box version) - a well rounded, super versatile silicon fuzz with phenomenal clean up
It took me years and years to 'get' fuzz, but once I got it, I was determined to build the perfect fuzz for myself. I wanted it to be super versatile so that it could cover all of the styles of classic fuzz in one pedal, and I wanted the cleanup to be chimey and bright. To cover all these things, it needed four controls - the standard fuzz and level, but then a tone control that can cut and boost treble, and a bias control with a wide range on it
With the bias control around 10-11 o'clock the circuit is 'optimally' biased, giving a really clear and tight fuzz sound, with a jangly clean up. With the bias fully left you get a fuller, more blown out fuzz tone with a thicker cleanup. With the bias right of noon, it starts to get velcroy and sputtery, even going to fully gated towards the end of the sweep.
The tone control creates a gentle mid hump, allowing the fuzz to cut through in a mix without needing a mid forward pedal after it
The fuzz control is a rev.log taper, opening up the sweep completely, so you don't just need to max the control for a useable sound - around 3 o'clock is my favourite setting
Like most classic fuzzes, the pedal is designed to work best at the start of the signal chain (before any buffers) - this allows for the best response to the guitars volume & tone controls - however it works pretty well after other effects
The circuit isn't a clone of anything; yes the core of the circuit is a two transistor boot-strapped arrangement, like nearly all two transistor fuzzes, but that's where the similarities end.
